Vic: Bracks did not know of any Kennett/Gobbo deal = 2

Mr BRACKS says he thinks the time is right to replace Sir JAMES because the term is
expiring at the end of the year.

And he says it's an opportune time to look at a new governor who reflects some of the
aspirations of Victorians.

Mr BRACKS has confirmed that he met with Sir JAMES yesterday but has refused to reveal
details of the meeting or if Sir JAMES had requested that his term as governor be extended.

Mr BRACKS did reveal that he had consulted the Queen over the appointment of a governor
during the last two days.

He says Sir JAMES has done an excellent job over the last three-and-a-half years, increasing
patronage and use of government house effectively.
