Butler sets record Scotland native wins women's race with ease

Collette Liss of Valparaiso, Ind., had a chance to become thefirst three-time winner in the 22nd annual LaSalle Bank ShamrockShuffle on Sunday, but Kathy Butler never gave her an opportunity.

Butler opened with a 4:42 mile in the world's largest 8-kilometerrace at Grant Park, giving her a nine-second lead on Liss, and heradvantage grew from there. Butler, born in Scotland and living inMadison, Wis., represented Canada in the 1996 Olympics but now runsfor Great Britain. She averaged 5:06.8 per mile in clocking 25:25,one second better than the previous course record set by Liss lastyear.
