NSW: Police hunt for Sydney car vandals
SYDNEY, April 26 AAP - At least 50 prestige cars have been damaged in a spate of vandalismattacks in inner Sydney streets.
The words AID (AID) and HIV have been scratched into paintwork and windscreen wipershave also been bent on dark-coloured prestige cars in Paddington over the past month,police said in a statement today.
Rose Bay local area commander Acting Superintendent Terry Dalton said the repair billfor some car owners had been more than $1,000.
"Some vehicles have been damaged more than once," he said in a statement today.
"The person or persons responsible have been targeting dark-coloured prestige carsparked in several Paddington Streets on Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights."
It is believed either a knife or a screwdriver had been used to write on the passengerdoors, bonnets and roofs of the vehicles, he said.
"We do not believe it is a hate crime but simply malicious damage caused by someonewho is unconcerned about the cost to the owners," he said.
Anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles parked in the areashould contact Rose Bay police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
